Wisdom Teeth Evaluation & Removal in Newport, NH
Wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to develop and can be quite unpredictable. Some come in normally and remain healthy. Others become impacted, difficult to clean, painful, infected, or cause problems for nearby teeth.
Canobie Dental evaluates and removes wisdom teeth when treatment can be done safely in our office.
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
Healthy wisdom teeth that have enough room, can be kept clean, and are not causing problems may be monitored over time.
Removal may be recommended if a wisdom tooth is:
An examination and dental imaging are needed to determine whether removal or continued monitoring makes more sense.
- painful or repeatedly inflamed
- infected
- decayed or difficult to keep clean
- impacted or only partly erupted
- damaging a nearby tooth
- associated with a cyst or other abnormal finding
- causing another significant dental problem
What does impacted mean?
An impacted wisdom tooth is partly or completely trapped beneath the gums, bone, or another tooth.
Some impacted teeth never cause problems. Others can become painful, infected, or damage nearby teeth.
The position and depth of the tooth help determine the best course of treatment.
Wisdom teeth removal at Canobie Dental
Canobie Dental performs routine wisdom teeth removal and selected surgical extractions.
We review your medical history, medications, imaging, tooth position, and sedation needs before treatment.
Conscious or oral sedation may be available for appropriate patients.
Severely impacted teeth and cases requiring IV sedation, deep sedation, or general anesthesia are outside our in-office treatment scope.
What should I expect afterward?
Soreness, swelling, and some bleeding are common after wisdom teeth removal.
We will give you instructions for:
Recovery depends on how many teeth are removed and how difficult the procedure is.
- controlling bleeding
- eating and drinking
- cleaning your mouth
- managing discomfort
- protecting the extraction sites
- medications when needed
- avoiding smoking and vaping while healing
When should I call?
Call us if you have worsening pain, heavy or persistent bleeding, increasing swelling, fever, drainage, medication problems, or another concern about your recovery.
Difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe uncontrolled bleeding, or another medical emergency requires emergency medical care.
