Prevention and early treatment

Many dental problems are easier to treat when they are found early.

We use regular exams, digital imaging, cavity-risk assessment, home-care recommendations, and other preventive tools to help patients avoid larger problems later.

For early tooth decay, treatment may include fluoride, fluoride-free remineralizing products, MI Paste, Curodont, improved home care, or closer monitoring depending on the situation.

Minimally invasive dentistry

When treatment is needed, our goal is to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

That may mean treating selected early, non-cavitated decay without drilling, placing a smaller restoration, using conservative preparation techniques, or strengthening and restoring a damaged tooth rather than removing more tooth structure than necessary.

We use conservative adhesive and biomimetic principles when planning restorative care.

Curodont for early tooth decay

Canobie Dental offers Curodont for selected early, non-cavitated tooth decay before a traditional filling is needed.

Curodont is applied directly to the tooth and uses peptides to help minerals move back into weakened enamel.

There is no shot, drilling, or filling material placed in the tooth during treatment.

Curodont is intended for early decay. Larger or deeper cavities may still need a filling or additional treatment.

Material-conscious dentistry

Many patients want to know more about the materials being used in their dental care.

We are happy to discuss those choices.

Canobie Dental uses modern tooth-colored and ceramic-based restorative materials, including VOCO Admira Fusion ORMOCER when appropriate.

Admira Fusion is a tooth-colored restorative material made without common Bis-GMA, UDMA, and TEGDMA monomers. We offer BPA-free restorative options and are happy to discuss the materials used in your treatment.

Please inform us if you have a latex, nickel, or milk allergy or wish to avoid animal-based products. We offer fluoride-free products as well.

Mercury-free dentistry

Canobie Dental does not place new silver-amalgam fillings.

We can replace an older amalgam filling when it is cracked, worn, leaking, has decay around it, needs other dental work, or when replacement otherwise makes sense as part of your treatment plan.

We do not recommend removing every healthy amalgam filling simply because it contains mercury.

Fluoride and fluoride-free options

Patients have different preferences when it comes to fluoride.

We offer both fluoride and fluoride-free options and can help you choose products based on your cavity risk, age, dental history, and personal preferences.

Options may include traditional fluoride products, nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste, MI Paste, and other remineralizing products.

MI Paste

MI Paste is a fluoride-free tooth cream that provides calcium and phosphate to the tooth surface.

We may recommend it for patients with weak enamel, early mineral loss, sensitivity, or other situations where additional remineralization may be helpful.

MI Paste contains a milk-derived protein and is not appropriate for patients with a milk-protein allergy. MI Paste Plus is a related version that also contains fluoride.

Nano-hydroxyapatite

Nano-hydroxyapatite is used in several modern toothpastes and oral-care products.

It can be an option for patients looking for a fluoride-free toothpaste or another way to support enamel and reduce sensitivity.
