About Sutton

Sutton developed around several separate villages because of its hilly terrain.

The three principal communities became South Sutton, Sutton Mills, and North Sutton, each developing its own center.

Originally known as Perrystown, the community's first permanent settlers arrived in 1770. It was incorporated as Sutton in 1784.

North Sutton is closely associated with Kezar Lake. Wadleigh State Park sits on the lake's southeastern shore, with a beach, tall pines, boating, and views toward Mount Kearsarge.

Sutton is also crossed by the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway, which passes through forest, conservation land, Wadleigh State Park, and other parts of the town.

The separate villages, Kezar Lake, forests, farms, and Mount Kearsarge views make Sutton easy to distinguish from neighboring Bradford, New London, and Warner.
