Part of the Upper Valley community
Norwich sits along the Connecticut River directly across from Hanover, New Hampshire, with Route 10A and the Ledyard Bridge connecting the two communities.
The town is firmly part of the larger Upper Valley academic, scientific, healthcare, and professional community while retaining a distinct Vermont village and rural landscape of its own.
The Montshire Museum of Science, located along the Connecticut River near Interstate 91, is one of the community's best-known institutions and serves families and schools throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.
Canobie Dental welcomes Norwich residents, Upper Valley professionals, students, families, and others who are looking for dental care in Newport.
Canobie Dental is independent of the Montshire, Dartmouth, Dartmouth Health, and other Upper Valley institutions.
About Norwich
Norwich was chartered on July 4, 1761.
The historic village centers on Main Street, the town green, Tracy Hall, Marion Cross School, the library, churches, local businesses, and nearby residential streets.
Norwich also played an unusual role in American educational history. In 1819, Captain Alden Partridge founded the institution in Norwich that later became Norwich University. The university eventually moved to Northfield, but its name preserves its origin here.
Today the town combines that historic village with the Connecticut River, U.S. Route 5, rural roads and conserved land, the Montshire, and direct connections to neighboring Hanover and the wider Upper Valley.
