About Marlow
Marlow is a small Cheshire County community built around forests, water, and a traditional village center.
The town was originally granted as Addison before being regranted in 1761 and named for Marlow, England.
The Ashuelot River flows through much of the eastern side of town. Its water once powered a substantial woodworking industry that produced furniture, tools, buckets, and other goods. By the mid-1800s, Marlow had several sawmills along with a gristmill and other small industries.
The water remains central to Marlow's identity. Village Pond, also known as Tin Shop Pond, sits beside the historic village and is a familiar local landmark. The town also includes Stone Pond, Sand Pond, Gustin Pond, forest, hills, and the Ashuelot River watershed.
