About Keene
Keene is the major population and commercial center of Cheshire County and has served as a regional crossroads for centuries.
Originally known as Upper Ashuelot, the community was renamed Keene when it was incorporated in 1753. Railroad connections beginning in the 1840s helped establish it as an important commercial center for southwestern New Hampshire.
